
The Chase House Bed and Breakfast Inn of Cornish, NH is one of New Hampshire's National Historic Landmarks and is the Birthplace of Salmon P. Chase. Situated on the banks of the picturesque Connecticut River in the heart of The Cornish Colony, with spectacular views of Vermont's Mount Ascutney, this lovely New Hampshire Inn uniquely combines a 1766 Settlement Colony-style house with a fine, circa 1795 Federal-style house. The Chase House Inn offers 9 charming guest rooms.
The 160 acre estate is situated on a peaceful country road surrounded by corn and hay fields, horses and cows, yet only minutes away from the cultural centers of The Dartmouth Hanover region, Lake Sunapee region, as well as Woodstock and Quechee Vermont.
Every morning upon waking, guests are greeted with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee or tea. A hearty country breakfast follows featuring seasonal fruits and homemade specialties. This bountiful spread is either served in the Chase House dining room, on the terrace, weather permitting, or in our 1810 post and beam gathering room.
After Breakfast, relax on the front porch or in the gazebo by the pond. If you would rather start your day with a little exercise enjoy a casual walk to the rivers edge, maybe even go for a swim, or a 40-minute hike to the top of our property and enjoy a special lookout of Mount Ascutney. For those with further recreation on their minds the area offers horseback riding, Canoeing and Kayaking, Hiking, Biking, golf and much more.
Enjoy your first day touring the Cornish Colony, within a short distance of the Inn, guests can find the Cornish-Windsor Bridge, the longest two span wooden covered bridge in the world and Saint Gaudens National Historic site. The Historic town of Windsor is the birthplace of Vermont and features Vermont Heritage Days and is home to The American Precision Museum, and The Cornish Colony Museum featuring Maxfield Parish.
For antique lovers, Plainfield Antique and Artisan Market offers high quality Antiques, local artisans, New England made products and a wonderful gift and Christmas shop. Chrismas Past and Present offers over twenty five different theme trees Steinbach Nutcrackers and one of the largest displays of Christopher Radko old world glass ornaments.
Vermont's quaint towns of Woodstock and Quechee are but a 20 to 25 minute scenic ride from the Inn. Woodstock is a charming town with many fine shops and restaurants. Billings Farm and VINS the Vermont Raptor Center offer fun for the entire family.
Quechee Gorge is a spectacular natural site. Summer fun brings the Quechee Balloon Festival. The Quechee Gorge Village offers over 450 antique dealers. Specialty shops, flea markets, museums, cultural exhibits and craft centers are also favorite pastimes of our guests. In our own town of Cornish, August brings the Cornish Fair - one of the oldest state fairs. Lake Sunapee is the place to be in early August with one of the oldest and largest craft fairs.
With springs arrival you may choose hiking, biking, mountain biking or just explore the vast beauty of the surrounding woodlands, pond and river frontage. Canoeing and kayaking on the Connecticut River are right outside the front door.
Golf lovers enjoy a scenic round of golf at The Crown Point Country Club. Golfing packages available, located just 15 minutes from the Inn. For those of you who would rather go Horseback riding there are numerous riding stables in both Vermont and New Hampshire.
As our Fall foliage season begins in early October, plan on staying 3 to 5 days. At Breakfast each morning we map out your days scenic foliage routes. Your first day should be spent relaxing on The Chase House grounds or hiking on our 160 acres of Maples, Oaks, Beeches and Birch trees. We are convenient to all parts of NH including a half day trip to the Lakes Region or a full day to The White Mountains including Mt. Washington, North Conway, Pinkham, and Franconia notches. Scenic Gondola ride at Loon Mountain on the Kancamangus Highway offers views of the nine surrounding peaks and is one of the 10 most scenic highways in the country. Short trips in our upper valley area include; The Woodstock area, The Killington Valley, and Okemo Valley VT and The Lake Sunapee area in NH.
When winter snows blanket The Chase House grounds our network of snowshoeing and cross-country skiing trails can occupy one to six hours of your day. We offer rentals and guided tours as well as wine and cheese parties at the rivers edge. For the down hill skier enjoy New England's finest skiing a short 15 to 30 minute ride and you will find yourself at Okemo, Mount Sunapee, Ascutney or Stratton.
Enjoy the finest dining in the Upper Valley at one of the many local restaurants including; The Windsor Station, Simon Pierce in Quechee, Bentley's of Woodstock, Mollies and Jesse's and The Canoe Club in Hanover.
